A foreign woman was charged as much as 22,000 kroner for a taxi ride from Gardermoen Airport to Oslo in July. Avinor is warning travellers and urging them to exercise caution.
According to [DN], a driver approached the woman near the taxi booking kiosk at the airport and offered her a ride.
After arriving in Oslo, her card was charged 22,000 kroner. It is not known which taxi company the driver was affiliated with. DN reports that its journalists saw documentation confirming the transaction.
Avinor communications adviser Carita Storm Røsaasen confirmed the incident and stressed that the driver’s actions were not in line with the rules in place at the airport.
“ We encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses similar situations to contact the police,” Røsaasen said.
The case was reported to the police, but the investigation was closed due to insufficient grounds to pursue it. It is not known whether the passenger recovered her money.
Avinor warns passengers
Attempts by taxi drivers to approach and pick up customers before they reach the official taxi booking points are not uncommon.
Avinor has placed special warning signs at Oslo Airport, Gardermoen, alerting passengers to such situations.
Travellers are advised to book a taxi using the official Fast Travel booking terminal at the airport, which is intended to reduce the risk of being overcharged or scammed.
