Central Oslo will be subject to restrictions, additional security measures and numerous roadblocks on the day of King Harald’s funeral. Umbrellas will not be allowed inside the security zone.

“The police want residents and members of the public who wish to attend the funeral to be able to do so. We expect large crowds, and umbrellas could obstruct people’s view and potentially lead to unrest and disturbances,” the Oslo Police District said in a statement.

This means attendees should bring rain jackets instead of umbrellas. Rain is forecast in the Norwegian capital on Wednesday.

A security ring around central Oslo

On Wednesday, a large security zone will be established around central Oslo. Anyone wishing to enter the zone will have to undergo a security check and have their bags inspected.

Police are urging people to bring as few belongings as possible.

“Do not bring large items or bulky luggage unless absolutely necessary,” police operations manager Rune Hekkelstrand wrote in the police log.

Movement within the security zone will be restricted to pedestrians.

According to information published by the City of Oslo, app-based rental e-scooters will stop operating well outside the security zone.

The measure, known as “geofencing”, will be in effect from Monday night through 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Bicycles will also not be permitted within the pedestrian-only zone.

Disruptions also expected on the road between Oslo and Gardermoen

Police are also urging drivers to allow extra travel time on the E6 between Oslo and Gardermoen Airport from Tuesday morning through Thursday.

During this period, motorcades carrying foreign guests attending King Harald’s funeral will travel along the route at various times.
